Canadians are very LUCKY to have lottery wins TAX FREE*. In Canada there are many government rules for playing lotteries. People playing lotteries run by the Canadian Lottery Corporations must purchase and claim tickets from the retailers or agencies running them. For example, if a Vancouver resident visits Ontario and purchases a ticket on provincial or federal games and the ticket wins, that person has to claim it in Ontario. If you were to try and claim a winning 649 ticket in British Columbia but it was purchased in Ontario, they will not help you.
Currently in Atlantic Canada and British Columbia tickets can be purchased online by residents of those provinces. Residents of other provinces are not allowed to purchase tickets online for lotteries.
Most lottery profits go for healthcare, education, or other special programs or projects.
Each Canadian Lottery Corporation has its own website, which gives detailed information regarding rules of play. If you are a lottery player, you should familiarize yourself with them.
* The province of Quebec treats lotteries differently. Please check their website for accurate information pertaining to lottery wins in that province. |
